Delicate Seedlings
Who Needs Coffee!
2 years ago I had great success with my little crop of celosia. Started from seed in the greenhouse, it struggled to take off and I lost even more when I planted it into The Pickery. I didn’t give up and with plenty of watering was able to encourage several large heads to form. What a spectacular color burst in the garden.
Last years crop was a dismal failure, with stems barely reaching 2 feet tall. What flowers did form were very small. Digging back in the archived images from the garden reminded me that I should give these a try–again!
The Perfect Office
Signs Of Life
The greenhouse remains cold for a few more weeks, but I still venture out there to escape the Winter winds and just linger among the clay pots and garden tools. Tucked into a crate I found these quail eggs that I had forgotten to pack away.
These delicate eggs are among many items in my nature collection. I love the colors, the delicate textures. Mother Nature always inspires me.
Details Of A Greenhouse
The little greenhouse was built by my husband 5 years ago.
Nearly all of the structure was built with recycled or reclaimed material–we are pretty proud of that.
The greenhouse is 10 X 10 ft square.
The greenhouse is wired and we heat or cool with electricity.
I use passive heating also–the greenhouse sits on a bed of sand, gravel and cement pavers. Black buckets filled with water also sit under the benches. All of these together–absorb heat during the day to help night temperatures.
There is maintenance with a wood structure. Painting! But it’s worth it!
If you want character in your garden landscape–you can’t get anything better!
When you live in zone 4, a greenhouse sure helps jumpstart your gardening.
As I sit here with a blizzard raging outside my window, I am counting the days till the greenhouse is warming and nurturing the next seasons plants.
Rain Barrel
When the search began for a rain barrel for the the greenhouse, I knew I wanted something that added character to the garden. Finding this old copper washing machine tub at a friends antique shop was the perfect piece. I couldn’t carry it out the door fast enough. A recycled base of a fire pit made the perfect stand for my rain barrel.
Recycled material, beautiful copper, and a great watering source close at hand. Makes for the perfect garden addition.
