It has been a few busy days around the garden.
Fence was finished.
Hay was stacked.
And the long awaited arrival of Flame!

A walk to the mailbox

Then I heard the “peeping”. Little heads were peeking up, to see if it was safe to cross the road.

The Pumpkin Barn–I mean how could I resist, two of my favorite things!
This beautiful property is located,
just a few blocks from the University of Minnesota, Mankato.
Katy & Dave Wortel–sell pumpkins, gourds & more.
We arrived just a few minutes before they closed for the evening.
What a perfect place to pick out a pumpkin–or lots of pumpkins!
There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots
may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on feelings, as now October.

I have been working on putting the garden to bed.
Only carrots and herbs remain in the raised beds.
Perennials are trimmed for the long rest.
Dill, gone to seed.
I enjoy my time in the garden– more than I enjoy the work in the kitchen.
But of coarse, the work must be done.
Tomatoes have been roasted,
Apples have been turned to Apple Butter, and pie fillings,
Soups have been made for the Winter months,
Herbs have been dried.
