James confirmed the dates of their visit earlier this month, and Field Editor Kate Carter-Frederick and I began
a couple weeks of email correspondence.
From her first email, I knew we shared a love of gardening and would become friends.
I knew of her work in Country Gardens Magazine and she is an accomplished writer, and author of many books.
Joining Kate Carter-Frederick, was photographer Karla Conrad and her assistant, Jennifer Caes.
What an amazing team these two were.
Young, enthusiastic, fun, and talented!
They jumped right in, and became a part of the garden for 2 very long days!
and it was HOT! melting Hot!

No idea!!!??? Next year? I will have to put it out of my mind….I’m slowly coming off the cloud–:) Reality is in the abundance of produce ready to harvest!
The excitement for me started in your title to this post, and it continued right through. Loved seeing how everyone worked in the garden – I also enjoyed seeing some longer/bigger shots of your beautiful garden too! And as you know already I’m looking forward to seeing the final piece 🙂
The most words ever on my blog! It was a thrilling experience–I was way out of my comfort zone at times allowing them to photograph me in the garden. Ugg- hope lots of those end up in the delete file, but I just wanted to take it all in and enjoy every moment. I will try to get a idea of when it will be published–but it looks like late next year–Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging comments! Stacey
It must have been a fascinating day. I’m doing quite a bit of photography myself at the moment so it’s interesting to see all the techniques they’re using. Loving that little cover over the computer that you can stick your head in. One of those could come in useful in so many circumstances 😉
Oh to watch how it was all done was so great–they arrived with a van of equipment. They have such tricks. You would be surprised how they manipulated the light. Exterior shots of Rabbit Run Cottage I was tucked inside holding the front door just so….Jennifer was usually just off camera with some flash, spotlight etc. I too am now inspired to learn more about photography….Karla Conrad took even a few minutes to teach me a few things. How sweet! 🙂 Thank you for your kind words! Stacey
If any garden deserves a visit from a magazine, it’s yours! My goodness, did you nearly keel over when the editor initially rang you!!!!!?????
Seriously, Stacey, I remember the first time I read your blog, and saw a picture of your amazing greenhouse! I was so impressed by its seamless fit with the environs, and how perfectly utilitarian it was! Functional beauty!
Lastly, the pics from your photo shoot are like an appetizer that didn’t quite fill me up! When will we see you in the magazine? I’m hungry for the main course!
Karen, thank you so much for your kind words about my garden! Your so sweet…
And yes, I jumped up and down for a couple of minutes with my phone in my hand and my husband laughing at me!
This greenhouse and garden lived in my head, and idea notebook for many years. I gathered inspiration and ideas for many years….and am lucky to have a handy husband to put it all together for me.
It seems that we will have to put it out of our minds for awhile–most likely next Fall! I will sure keep you posted.
Thanks for the pictures, can’t wait until it comes out! I know just how painstaking photo shoots can be, and outside would be another story altogether..especially with the heat/humidity we have been having. You have so many wonderful elements to photograph, I am sure it will be on the cover. And now you can “relax” and not worry if some plants start to go south. Good job! Looking forward to seeing it on the magazine stand!
That is so amazing to have been photographed by Country Gardens Magazine. I’m in awe of your beautiful garden, it’s no wonder they wanted to have it in their magazine. It’s interesting to see how they get those beautiful shots. How glorious, congratulations, albeit 5 months late.
Oh, how fun! Do you know yet when it will run?

No kidding! Picked the first green bean today, and should have the first tomato tomorrow.
Next week, there’ll be buckets of both 😀
Wow congratulations! What fun and such an honour 🙂
Thank you! I felt like the luckiest gardener!
Wow! How cool is THAT? Congratulations to you.
Thank you so much– 🙂
