Autumn Chores

I long for the bulbs to arrive,

for the early Autumn chores are melancholy,

but the planting of bulbs is the work of hope and is always thrilling.

  1. I have daffs waiting on the verandah but I am thinking of putting them in pots this year.. maybe for some early colour in the spring.. Love the promise of bulbs.. c

    1. I may pot up some too, leave in the greenhouse under a little burlap cover….then have something pretty to enjoy come February. I should be out planting them right now! Tomorrow!

    1. I am very excited to put my first bulbs into this garden! Nov. 1 marked our 5 year anniversary of moving “to the country”, it’s about time I get to them on the list. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Great quote from May Sarton. I haven’t run across her in a long time. A few weeks ago, we potted up some Amaryllis bulbs (which I am hoping will bloom for Thanksgiving) and some tulips (which I am hoping will bloom early winter).

  3. I love this quote! I’ve never come across it before. It’s perfect. Just yesterday I put 60 daffodil bulbs in the ground. I’d happily dig in the dirt all day, so much better than dishes.

    1. Thank you Kathy, I had it jotted down in a garden journal and thought of it when I was sorting the bulbs…Wow, you are going to have a beautiful daff display come Spring!
And my hand is up, voting for gardening over cooking and cleaning! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I think I will shop the “clearance” section and grab a few for forcing. I have a basket full of paper whites to take care of this week! Wouldn’t be the holidays without them!
