It’s apple season!
The best decoration for the table, a bowl of beautiful apples.
“Eat an apple”, I remind my kids.
Apple Butter is cooked to spread on our toast all Winter long.

Thank you for stoping by the garden!
If you do a search for apple butter–you will find recipes! Basically you cook your apples down to a dark, thick applesauce.
My recipe:
5lbs apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
Place in slow cooker
Add 2 cups Apple Cider
2 Tbls Cinnamon
1 t nutmeg
juice from 1 lemon
Cook in slow cooker for 12 hours…stir occasionally…last hour remove lid
and stir.
Let cool…if freezing or for storing in the fridge to eat right away…and store in covered container in the fridge for 2 weeks.
If canning—pour warm apple butter into hot, sterilized jars, add 1 Tbls lemon juice to each jar and process per canning instructions.
This is a tradition in our house….delicious on toast!
Enjoy, Stacey
I may not like the coming of winter, but I love the fall apples, pears and pumpkins! I don’t have to offer fruit around here, I leave it out in a bowl and it’s eaten very quickly. Of course, I put some up too.
I can’t wait till our own tress produce enough for us….but I think we still will visit local orchards.
It’s such a wonderful, Fall outing. And apples are so good for us….so apple pie must be super good for us!
Apple butter – applesauce mixed with butter?

Thanks ever so much!
We just picked up a bag of Sweet Tango yesterday from a Trump’s Orchard in Faribault. Yummy.
Love the local apples! Did you here the U of M, just released a new variety called Frostbite!

So agree, I don’t like the stuff that comes after Fall…things we do not speak of!
A good friend each year yells (half-jokingly) at anyone who “swears” by saying the “S” word.
It’s true that apples just sing Autumn! I must get out the apple butter recipes. I can taste it!
