Pickling Factory

Pickling Factory

The Pickle Factory is in full production.
Old family recipes have been unearthed from boxes of treasured cookbooks. The house is filled with fragrance of vinegar, fresh dill, garlic and aromatic pickling spices.
Hot jars sit resting on any counter space still available, and I smile with every pop from the lids sealing as they cool.

Garden produce

Garden produce

Early morning clouds brought some cooler temperatures to the garden this morning.
I picked the last of the peas and beans and was thrilled to find my first cucumbers.
Lots of salads on the menu this week.

Garden Beans–Magical colors

Garden Beans--Magical colors

Royal Burgundy green beans.
A stunning purple color, good producer and nice sweet flavor.
A bowl of these doesn’t last long on the table! Great snack!

When the garden really takes off, spilling over the edges of the raised beds.

Vegetables are getting ready to pick and enjoy!  Well worth the work and the wait.

Time to tie up the tomatoes

Time to tie up the tomatoes

Tools for the trade!
Heirloom tomato plants grow up big and tall.
Heavy duty cages are needed and staking will help the plants from falling over.
I use jute string to tie up stalks that want to escape captivity.
The plants are getting heavy with tomatoes!
