life in and around the garden
I have been documenting all the different heirloom tomato varieties
with my camera this Summer.
It will be a good way to remember them when the snow is flying this Winter,
and I have my nose in the seed catalogs.
After my little photo shoot the other day,
I had this lovely plate sitting on the table.
The best, largest and prettiest crop of peppers I have ever grown!
As Dr. Gru says in Despicable Me–
Very, very proud!
Fairly simple,
nothing showy,
often a bit untidy and rambling around the edges-
relaxed.
I just have to share these gorgeous Heirloom Tomatoes.
A little collection of green…
Each morning usually starts with a check of the greenhouse and garden, and today marked the first cool morning as we have nearly exhausted the first week of August.
The bon-fire from last night is smoldering, with a hint of smoke trailing from it.
The greenhouse was lit with dapples of sunrise…
It’s going to be a good day–I can tell.
Lot’s to harvest this week in the garden.
The last of the broccoli made a lovely bouquet!

Way back in March, Country Gardens Magazine Editor, James Baggett called to tell me my greenhouse and garden
had been selected to be photographed for the magazine!
I have loved Country Gardens Magazine for years–and have the stack of back issues to prove it!
James confirmed the dates of their visit earlier this month, and Field Editor Kate Carter-Frederick and I began
a couple weeks of email correspondence.
From her first email, I knew we shared a love of gardening and would become friends.
I knew of her work in Country Gardens Magazine and she is an accomplished writer, and author of many books.
Joining Kate Carter-Frederick, was photographer Karla Conrad and her assistant, Jennifer Caes.
What an amazing team these two were.
Young, enthusiastic, fun, and talented!
They jumped right in, and became a part of the garden for 2 very long days!
and it was HOT! melting Hot!
I so “enjoyed the journey”.

My grandparents had chickens…
well concrete ones.
They had the whole family.
A rooster, a hen, and 3 little chicks.
When Grandpa mowed the lawn, we helped move the little chicks.
When this chicken appeared at a local auction, my husband was the wining bidder,
and brought me home my own concrete chicken.
