Plenty

Plenty

There will be plenty of Heirloom tomato plants!
The greenhouse is filled with a beautiful crop of plants for my little sale this Spring.
Herbs too….I can’t live without my herbs–you should have some too.
Spring is warming my soul, as I get the garden ready for company.

Cilantro, here we go

Cilantro, here we go

When the cilantro goes to seed, it becomes coriander.
I filled my spice jars for the Winter. How wonderful to see my spice cupboard stocked with many of my own herbs and spices.
The remainder of the seeds were packaged for planting this years garden.
The first round of pots are in the warm greenhouse….
Cilantro tends to bolt quickly, so I will be starting more in a couple of weeks.
My goal is to have Cilantro for most of the Summer.
After all, Summer and salsa go together quite nicely.

Spring garden chores

Spring garden chores

Don’t be fooled by this sunshine in the garden. The temperature is 25 degrees with a wind howling from the North. The snow has melted from the garden this past week, but the forecast is calling for more later this week.

The chickens are so happy the snow is disappearing, they showed their appreciation by laying a few eggs!

Garden Homework

Garden Homework

Double checking the seeds on hand and making the list of what I still need to grab from the garden store.
My three favorite radish seeds: White icicle, Early scarlet, and French breakfast.
I will give them an A.

A garden speaks

A garden speaks

This corner says, “Come on in and enjoy the view.” Our first day in 6 months that the temperature will reach 60 degrees!!
I am walking gingerly in the garden as not to trample soggy ground, inspecting and taking mental inventory.
Watching the last snow piles melt, and breathing in the smells of Spring.

Ornamental Kale

Ornamental Kale

Last year I grew ornamental kale for the first time.
Started from seed, it was slow to take off, but when it did–oh, my what impact it had in the garden!
I planted it directly into the edges of a few of my raised beds and bordering the edge of The Pickery.
This year I will be planting it into large pots, so that I can move it around the garden. It looks stunning long into the Fall.
The little kale seedlings are emerging and I’ve given them a pep talk–hope they live up to last years crop!
