An evening around the table with books, magazines, laughter and garden dreams.
A treat to visit Rita’s beautiful home, and meet my new string loving friend, Jackie.

The Little Garden Pond

The Little Garden Pond

We do have a little garden pond.
It’s quite small, but the sound of a water feature in a garden can make a big impact.
So soothing during quiet evenings around the fire pit.
We would like to make changes to it this year, as we have learned more about maintaining a pond.
One of the biggest challenges is keeping the ducks out of it!
Last year I relinquished it to the baby ducklings, but this year I plan to impose the “no ducks allowed” rule.

Piled High

Piled High

Winter has been an experience this season.
Morning chores to feed a horse, donkey, chickens and ducks, met me with a calm 30 degree temperature.
It feels warm, it feels like the cold has broken, it feels like Spring will come!
The snowdrifts are deep and covering everything. To get to the greenhouse I have to circle around to the back gate.
But the trudging is worth it!
A sanctuary just waiting to be filled with seedlings and plants.
It truly is my happy place.

Let’s move this thing

Let's move this thing

This little wagon is handy to have around the garden.
When the plants are ready to leave the greenhouse, I can load up the wagon and pull them around to the garden beds.
I made the wagon a little sign, just for fun.

We have a Contender!

We have a Contender!

Fruit trees were a priority to plant when we first moved to our little country property nearly 6 years ago.
Apple trees were first, then came Pear trees, and last Spring we added 2 Contender Peach trees.
Planted as bare root trees, we carefully pondered their location and hoped for the best. Last Summers drought made for lots of hose dragging around the property to ensure these new trees would grow.
When Spring came and our sweet new trees blossomed we were thrilled!
This week while walking the yard and inspecting trees we spied this–A PEACH! Yes, our first peach.
Contender Peach trees are rated Zone 4-8, good for Northern growers.
Quantities are limited for these trees, so if you want one, shop early in the Spring.
They are self-polinating, and should produce a medium to large peach. Trees should grow to about 15 feet.
Funny how we all gathered around the little peach to admire it! Blog worthy my family declared!
